Every week, I'm going to also publish a brief summary of three to five news items from the week's paid issue. This is what that will generally look like, though the level of detail may vary from week to week.

NJ-LD-22: The president of the New Jersey Senate, Nick Scutari, appears to have used campaign funds to pay someone’s personal taxes, maybe even his own, writing a check for more than $11,000 to the IRS in March of 2024.

IL-09: Jan Schakowsky bows out, and candidates pile into the race to succeed her, including journalist/influencer Kat Abughazaleh, Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss, and state Sen. Laura Fine.

MI-13: Eccentric Detroit Rep. Shri Thanedar is the first target of Justice Democrats in the 2026 cycle—and their pick, state Rep. Donavan McKinney, already has support from a long list of local elected officials, including Detroit’s other U.S. representative, Rashida Tlaib.

NJ-Gov: A crowded six-candidate race gets heated in the final month, with all candidates trading blows on the debate stage and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, fresh off an arrest at the hands of Donald Trump’s ICE, launching an opening salvo of attack ads against frontrunner Rep. Mikie Sherrill.

NYC Mayor: The many candidates vying to save New York City from four miserable years of Mayor Andrew Cuomo are beginning to work together out in the open, as they attempt to build a coalition of voters who will strategically rank Cuomo’s opponents to beat the former governor in the final round of ranked-choice voting tabulations.
